Hanford Dixon on Quinshon Judkins Arrest: “A Very, Very Unfortunate Situation”

16 Jul 2025

The Cleveland Browns’ offseason took another difficult turn this week with the arrest of rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, casting a cloud over what had been a hopeful start to the offseason. On The Hanford Dixon Show, the tone was one of caution, concern, and reflection as the crew unpacked what they called a “very, very unfortunate situation.”

“Honestly, where do we dive in here? Because it's not a great one to start with,” Pat McGuire said. “It's a really tough look.”

From the very beginning, the hosts made it clear that this story is still unfolding. All facts remain alleged, and everyone involved stressed the importance of not jumping to conclusions.

“We don't know the full extent of the story or anything yet… everything's alleged at this time,” Jack O'Rourke noted. “Hopefully the right actions are taken across the board by all parties involved and the teams can move forward.”

Hanford: “You Just Don’t Do It”

As a former player and now a voice of leadership, Hanford Dixon brought a deeply personal perspective to the discussion, grounded in his upbringing and values.

“I had a sister… I have two daughters… and the way my parents taught me, I don’t care what they say or what they do — you just don’t do it,” he said firmly. “That’s just a no-no.”

At the same time, Dixon emphasized that no one yet knows what actually happened, and it’s a story that must be allowed to play out.

“Nobody knows what really happened but the two of them because they were the only ones there,” he added.

"A Sad Thing That This Happened"

The panel expressed sadness for both parties involved — not just because it involves an NFL player, but because of the real-life human cost.

“It’s a really sad thing that this happened regardless if it's a professional football player or not,” O'Rourke said. “I'm just glad she's okay, and I'm glad he's okay.”

There was also mention of Judkins' bright future, which now faces uncertainty.

“Here's a young man that's just trying to start his NFL career, and this comes out about him,” Hanford said. “I just think this kid has got such a bright, bright future.”

Browns’ Offseason Woes Continue

For fans of the team, this is a bitterly familiar feeling. McGuire pointed out the disturbing pattern in recent years.

“Three out of the last four offseasons, the Browns have had some sort of off-the-field dispute with one of their players,” they said.

The discussion turned toward second-round picks, referencing Mike Hall Jr., who was suspended last season, and now Judkins — both of whom came in with high expectations.

“Both of those guys were drafted in the second round, and both of them are from Ohio State,” Hanford noted. “I was really high on those running backs coming in.”

“We have one draft choice that is not signed with this team… that’s Quinshon,” Hanford added. “Unbelievable. And he’s the one that’s not signed yet.”

Raising Larger Questions

The show didn’t shy away from asking if there's a larger issue at hand.

“Is it an organizational thing?” Jack asked. “I hate asking that because I love the Cleveland Browns organization… but the questions have to be asked.”

While no one pointed fingers directly at general manager Andrew Berry, O'Rourke did wonder aloud whether more due diligence could have been done.

“Is it Andrew Berry's job to babysit the kids he draft picks? No… but maybe you could have made one more phone call,” O'Rourke said. “It makes you scratch your head a little bit… that it's three years in a row now.”

NFL and Player Education

Hanford also reflected on how the NFL once tried to educate players early in their careers to avoid these very types of situations.

“They used to gather all the rookies… it's like a little school,” he recalled. “They tell them what to expect and give them all the rules, what to do, what not to do.”

But as another host said, “guys are going to be guys. They're going to do what they want to do.”

Final Word: "It's Just So Unfortunate"

More than anything, The Hanford Dixon Show expressed disappointment that another Browns offseason is marred by headlines that have nothing to do with football.

“It’s just so, so, so unfortunate… and the kid is still a young kid,” Hanford said.

While Judkins’ future — both legally and on the football field — remains unclear, the message from the show was one of empathy, caution, and reflection. This isn’t just about football. It’s about people.

“You just hope that everyone involved… is okay,” O'Rourke said. “And that the right thing gets done.”
