For this week’s picks column, I caught up with Erin Coscarelli, host of the NFL Network’s “NFL HQ.”
Coscarelli was previously an anchor and reporter for Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, where she appeared on a number of programs, including the network’s signature show “SportsNet Central.” She has covered the Bay Area’s professional sports teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, and the Golden State Warriors, as well as the Stanford and California football programs.
Erin and I discussed the week 10 match ups, our locks of the week, and her NFL Network insights on the final stretch of the 2015 season. You can catch Erin on the NFL Network weekdays at 8 AM.
BigPlay.com: As host of NFL HQ, you’ve got your finger on the pulse of all the developing stories in the NFL. What do you see as the most compelling story line as we head into the second half of the season
Erin Coscarelli: Is Cincinnati the real deal?!
BP: The Vikings shockingly find themselves atop the NFC North with the Packers, who have now lost two straight. Who do you think can hold on to take the title in this heated division race?
EC: Vikings all the way! That defense-and-run game gives them a better shot than A Rod and the Pack in my opinion.
BP: With significant injuries to Tony Romo and Dez Bryant derailing what was predicted to be a solid Cowboys’ season, do you think they can put together an epic second half run upon their returns, or is the bad karma of having Greg Hardy on the roster too much to overcome?
EC: Greg Hardy has yet to help them get a win. I think the Giants will win the division, but it just goes to show how valuable Tony Romo is to that team. Time to give him some much-deserved credit.
BP: We’ve got three undefeated teams as this point in the season. Do you see either New England, Carolina, or Cincinnati running the table? And, on that note, do you see any other teams that have had a solid first half of the season flaming out in spectacular fashion?
EC: Tom Brady is playing with a chip on his shoulder. Any team with #12 under center is a contender. Patriots will be hard to top.
I see the Cardinals having a hard time staying on top of the NFC West with the Rams and the Seahawks gunning for them. They have a huge test this Sunday heading to C-Link and taking on the Seahawks. Seattle is historically better in the 2nd half of the season.
BP: Rex Ryan’s been trolling the Jets pretty hard this year, and took it to the next level when he named IK Enemkpali as captain for the game against his old team. Colorful personalities like Rex certainly give you some fun stories in your career. What other NFL characters are your personal favorites to cover?
EC: Rex Ryan is always a treat. Nothing short of pure entertainment. Dez Bryant always keeps us guessing.
A solid 9 – 4 against the spread last week pushes my season totals to 63 – 65 – 4. Let’s see if Erin can top me in our head to head match-up for Week 10.
