Chris Archer has been suspended for five games by the MLB for his actions in Sunday’s brawl with the Reds at PNC Park.
Archer has the ability to appeal the suspension, but it is unclear if he will proceed with that. The Pirates resume the action at Wrigley Field on Wednesday for a three-game series with the Cubs.
Reds’ right fielder, Yasiel Puig was suspended for two games and manager David Bell received a one-game ban.
The incident started when Archer threw a 93-mph fastball behind Derek Dietrich’s waist in the fourth inning. Two innings prior, Dietrich stood at home plate and stopped to admire the 436-foot home run off Archer that cleared the Clemente Wall.
Home plate umpire, Jeff Kellogg warned both benches after Archer’s pitch.
Puig put the Pirates bench coach Tom Prince in a headlock as well. Puig was ejected along with Bell. Also tossed were Felipe Vazquez, Keone Kela and Reds reliever, Amir Garrett.
Archer wasn’t ejected.
