It’s not often that you come across the term “foreign substance” in baseball. Yet every now and again, pitchers find themselves in hot water for having a foreign substance on their fingers, their pants, only to smear the ball with it and create some extra English.
Reliever Brett Cecil received quite a few puzzled expressions today after a strike out turned into a single on a mysterious missing ball. The most puzzled face out there? Cards catcher Yadier Molina.

Most likely the substance was some pine tar on Molina’s chest protector, but whenever you see a ball that sticky…it makes you think.
Either way, it made for one hell of a highlight.
Cards lost the baseball and the ball game to the Cubbies, 4-2.
