Tate Martell To The U

Roughly 12 days after Justin Fields made his choice to transfer from the University of Georgia to The Ohio State University, Tate Martell, the previous backup quarterback for the Buckeyes, has decided to take his talents down to South Beach. Not the same sport nor same situation, Martell isn’t joining an immediate National Championship contender. Instead, he leaves the Bucks for the U where new head coach Manny Diaz will try and develop Tate into something we haven’t seen at from the Hurricanes in quite some time, a dominant, consistent quarterback. I like many others have fell victim to throwing up the U in hopes of them being “back” and each time has walked away feeling duped. The Canes have been led by Malik Rosier in what’s felt like an eternity to everyone including the Miami fan base. Last year in 8 games as the quarterback Rosier put up 1,053 yards with six touchdowns and eight interceptions with a 3-5 record and most importantly losing the last four including the loss to Wisconsin in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl 35-3, where the Hurricanes looked unenthused and not really wanting to play in the cold. It’s good to see that someone will benefit from the surplus of quarterback talent at OSU, this is the second back up quarterback to transfer in two years, Joey Burrow from LSU being the last one. As a fan of football, the only sadness I have is not being able to watch the quarterback battle of Justin Fields and Tate Martell.

Now that it’s over I think we should pay respect to this glorious short rivalry:

-don’t swing and miss

….especially not your second time”

As a Buckeye fan, I want nothing more than for Martell to bring the U back and show the world that even if you spend some time at The Ohio State you will be developed into an athlete that you should be. With this transfer Buckeyes fans now really need to hope and pray that the NCAA allows Justin Fields to play immediately or else they will be relying on four-star freshman, Matthew Baldwin to lead the way.

Regardless, the Hurricanes are getting a quarterback when given the opportunity last year provided the Buckeyes with 269 yards, completing 82% of his passes, with one touchdown. Tate is known for more of his running game where he gave the Bucks 128 yards on 22 tries and two touchdowns.

Maybe the U is Back?
