This should not come as a surprise to anyone. The Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays have been discussed in several trade rumors since this year’s trade deadline. Now, something is finally brewing. The Cubs have too many star fielders and not enough pitching. Enter Chris Archer.
According to Sean Sears, a Chicago sports writer, the Cubs are not afraid to part with MLB talent to acquire a guy like Archer. The Rays have expressed interest in Javier Baez, a fan favorite.

When you think about it, moving Baez makes sense. It opens up the everyday second baseman position for Ian Happ and that leads to Albert Almora Jr. being able to play much more than he did this season. He may even end up in the starting role, depending on what happens with Ben Zobrist and Jon Jay. Jay is a free agent.
It certainly sounds like a deal will be reached by the start of spring training. Definitely look for a move this size to be made during the baseball winter meetings.
