In what will probably be one of the least talked about series in the first round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars put on a show late last night for Game 3.
The Stars outplayed the Predators in every aspect of the game, except the one that truly matters – goaltending.
Despite Ben Bishop being arguably the best goaltender throughout the regular season, he hit a rough patch Monday night in team’s first home game against the Preds. But he’s ready to put it in the past.
On the other hand, Predators goaltender, Pekka Rinne, had one hell of a night stopping 40 of Dallas’ 42 shots. Just imagine the highlight below happening all night.
The Predators took a 2-0 lead in the second period after two straight B-E-A-utiful goals scored by Rocco Grimaldi and Filip Forsberg.
The Stars were finally able to retaliate with 2:49 left in the second period thanks to a goal by Mats Zuccarello, his second of the series.
Almost halfway through the third period, the Stars tied it up with 2-2 after a beautiful pass from behind the net to Tyler Seguin, his first of the series.
Just a few minutes later, the Predators retaliated by going up 3-2 after a re-directed goal by Mikael Granlund, his first of the series, assisted by Dante Fabbro. Did you miss where that puck went? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Just know that it went in the net.
The Stars failed to score within the final eight minutes of the game, leaving them down 2-1 in the series.
Dallas hasn’t won a home playoff game since 2016 – the last time they were in the playoffs. The worst part of this loss was that the Stars dominated on all front but failed to score enough for a win. Now they must win Game 4 on April 17 to tie up the series before heading back to a hostile Nashville home crowd.
