ESPN is reporting that Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is getting fined $100,000 and the Seahawks are being hit with a fine for over $200,000 for violating the NFL’s no-contact rules that govern off-season practices. The club will also lose 2 mini camp practices in 2015. After reviewing practice tape, the NFL ruled that the coaching staff was encouraging excessive contact.
Imagine that. The defending Super Bowl champs are being accused of practicing the way you play. If you ever played organized tackle football, your coaches constantly preached that you practice like you play. There’s a reason that Seattle secondary was one of the most feared units in the league last year. If they’re smashing their own teammates in the mouth then what do you think they want to do to opposing receivers?
This isn’t even the first time the Hawks have been reprimanded for a similar violation. In 2012, the club was fined and undisclosed amount and this was under Carroll’s supervision. In all honesty, it’s paying off. This defense will be one of the most feared D’s in the league and we will likely see them in the NFC championship.
