Marlins’ owner Jeffrey Loria is set to sell his team to 14-time all star, Derek Jeter, for 1.2 Billion dollars. Jeter lives in Tampa and has wanted to own a franchise for awhile.

Loria had purchased then Marlins back in 2002. They went on to win the World Series in 2003, but haven’t made the playoffs since then. Loria has become more unpopular in South Florida in recently after the team moved into a new, largely publicly financed stadium.

Fans were wondering why that money wasn’t used on actual talent in the field, as Miami has one of the lowest payrolls in the MLB.

“It will be an honor to play for a future Hall of Famer,” Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna said.

The deal is set to be announced “in the coming days,” according to sources.
