The New Orleans Pelicans have hired former WNBA standout Swin Cash to a senior front-office position, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe.
Cash played 15 years in the league and won three titles before retiring in 2016. She will work as the Vice President of Basketball Operations and Team Development where she will assist in scouting and team development.
Since her retirement, Cash has worked in the New York Liberty’s front-office as the Director of Franchise Development and as an NBA analyst on NBA TV.
Late last year, the Indiana Pacers made Kelly Krauskopf the NBA’s first female Assistant General Manager. NBA teams seem to be trending in the right direction by widening their candidacy pool to anybody with legit basketball knowledge – regardless of their gender.
The Pelicans currently possess the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft where they are expected to take Duke forward Zion Williamson. They’re also trying to mitigate for Anthony Davis, who has expressed his desire for a trade even after meeting with new VP of Basketball Operations David Griffin.
