Led by first-round selection and Summer League MVP, Brandon Clarke, the Memphis Grizzlies have defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Summer League Finals 95-92. The 21st overall pick averaged a near double-double with 15 points and just under 10 rebounds per game in his six Summer League appearances.
Clarke slid a little in the draft this June, and 18 teams must feel pretty dumb now. He was the best player on a loaded Gonzaga team, but scouts felt that due to how undersized he was, his skill set would not translate to the next level. So far, they’re wrong.
Clarke has shot the ball very efficiently in each of his games, even showing off that he can knock down his outside jump shots.
Grizzlies’ fans already have high hopes for Clarke as he joins the young core in Memphis that features Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant. Not only will Clarke join these budding stars, but he will also team up with three other Summer League MVPs. Jonas Valanciunas (2013), Kyle Anderson (2015), and Tyus Jones (2018) have all had semi-successful NBA careers; however, Memphis will have higher expectations for the ex-Bulldog.
