What to Know?

  • #1 Seed: UNC
  • Sleepers: Seton Hall and Auburn
  • Over Seeded: Kansas

My favorite teams in the tournament all sit in this region. UNC and Kentucky are both great teams and are the stars of the bracket. The Tar Heels are the most complete team in the country. They have three stars in Coby White, Luke Maye, and Cameron Johnson. All of these guys have been in and won in the tournament before. That’s a scary factor for any team to run into. Also, they have an amazing coach in Roy Williams, making them the most polished team in the country.

There’s two sleeper picks in this region. Seton Hall comes in at a 10 seed and led by Myles Powell. He’s been one of the best scorers in the country recently and can carry the Pirates any given night. Also, the Pirates have already beaten Kentucky this year so they know what they need to do in order to pull off the second round upset.

Auburn is coming into the tournament as the hottest team in the country. They’ll shoot about a million threes a game, and they’ve been making them at a very high rate. They also have a high-pressure defense, giving them more possessions every single game. If they knock down their shots, they can beat anyone.

Whatever you do, don’t pick Kansas. They are pitiful away from Allen Field House this year. Also, they’ll be missing Legerald Vick and Udoka Azubukie. They haven’t been the same team without them on the floor.

First Round Predictions:

#1 UNC: 101 vs #16 Iona: 62

#8 Utah State: 75 vs #9 Washington: 73

#5 Auburn: 82 vs #12 New Mexico State: 78

#4 Kansas: 73 vs #13 Northeastern: 64

#6 Iowa State: 52 vs #11 Ohio State: 59

#3 Houston: 79 vs #14 Georgia State: 66

#7 Wofford: 80 vs #10 Seton Hall: 83

#2 Kentucky: 89 vs #15 Abilene Christian: 52
