Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Doncic won the 2018-19 NBA Rookie of the Year on Monday night.
The third overall pick in last year’s draft received 98 of the 100 first-place votes with Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young receiving the other two votes.
Doncic averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and six assists per game in 72 games played last season, giving Dallas fans hope for the future in the post-Dirk Nowitzki era.
Doncic is also the fourth international player in history to win the award, joining Pau Gasol, Andrew Wiggins, and Ben Simmons.
Dallas is hopeful Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, who the team acquired in February can be the 1-2 punch fans are expecting them to be and will put the Mavericks back into championship contention for the next decade.
