In what many thought would be the Steph Curry vs Kyrie Irving showdown, LeBron James decided to throw that narrative out the window and dominate Quicken Loans Arena for 4 straight quarters, leading to a Cavs 110-99 victory.
James finished the night with 42 pts, 11 dimes and 5 assists, while the splash brothers of Golden State combined to shoot 30% from the field in the losing effort. Irving finished with 24 pts.
The monster performance from James re-sparked MVP chatter in media circles, an accolade that James quickly brushed off.
“That’s not why I’m here,” he said. “I’ve got to be the MVP for these guys, the 14 guys in the locker room. When I’m on the floor, I’ll try to do everything I can to help this team win.”
The extremely one sided match up should prove to be a fluke, as Curry and Thompson average 47% FG (+17% from last night) on the year.
Will we see this match up again in June? The Cavs should live up to their end of the bargain, and time will tell if the Warriors can do the same.
