This is exactly why we should NOT send the best NBA players to play in meaningless games — Kyrie Irving took a nasty fall during today’s game against the Ukraine and needed to be escorted off the court.
The score at the time Irving fell was 93-65 — do you even need me to tell you the USA was winning? If this was an NBA regular season game, Kyrie would’ve played at most 5 minutes in the second half.
Kyrie tweeted after the game that the injury wasn’t as bad as it looked, but from the looks of it, Cavs fans dodged a bullet.
Everyone knows that ESPN needed to get people hyped about something between the end of NBA free agency and the start of the NFL season, but this is ridiculous. Nobody cares about the FIBA World Championships. If the USA is somehow upset by Spain or Argentina, there won’t be anarchy in the streets — NBA fans will merely shrug their shoulders and say “we didn’t even send our best players.”
Who’s willing to bet Coach K got a call long distance call from Bulls GM, Gar Forman, saying “ok, time to shut down D-Rose.”
