Per @MySportsLegion (they have 258k followers so it’s legit-ish):
Charlotte never technically chose Kobe Bryant. In fact, Kobe’s agent at the time, Arn Tellum, stated that Kobe actually playing for the Hornets was “a near impossibility”.
After the 1996 draft, Hornets’ lead scout Bill Branch claimed he never actually considered Kobe with the 13th overall pick (what a scout). A trade had already been made between the Lakers and Charlotte, 5 minutes prior to the pick. Kobe was then traded for the 7 year center, Vlade Divac. Vlade was decent at the time of the trade, but comparing this trade to receiving Kevin Love is a bit of an exaggeration. Vlade was named an all star once in 2001, 5 years after the trade.
So, sure Kobe…we understand you had a chip on your shoulder like young Andrew should and will…but mistake trading for a multiple time all star who can shoot buckets? Time to shut up and get back on the court.
