Finally, the 155-lb division in the UFC will have it’s set champion. No more interim non-sense, no-more debating on whether the champion is actually “the champion”, nope! On September , 2019 in Abu Dhabi, Khabib Numagomedov will face off against current interim champion Dustin Poirier to see who will TRULY be crowned the 155 champion.
If you don’t remember, the past few years have consisted of Conor Macgregor winning the 155-lb belt from Eddie Alvarez , and then taking what seemed like 25 years off of fighting to negotiate more money and be a diva. This time off caused a litany of interim champions over and over again until FINALLY that came to and end when Khabib bodied Conor in UFC 229. But, once again that title was stripped because of an unnecessary brawl that ensued in the octagon immediately following the end of the fight between Khabib and his team vs Conor and his team, ultimately leading to Khabib getting suspended and forfeiting the belt. Just an absolute mess that wound up getting us back to exactly where we started. With no true champion.
UFC 229 was followed by Dustin Poirier taking the interim belt and becoming the stand-in champion for the 155-lb division a few months back. But, finally we have reached a point where all of the extra B.S. seems to have cleared and a new, true, unified champion will be crowned and the 155-lb division will have it’s king.
While Dustin Poirier is one tough S.O.B., I think Khabib takes this belt back and sit upon the 155 throne. What do you think? The line is currently set to -360 for Khabib.
