Despite missing the entire 2018-19 campaign, Kristaps Porzingis still landed a five-year, $158 million max contract from the Dallas Mavericks.
Dallas acquired the Latvian superstar from the New York Knicks last season even though the team knew he wouldn’t play that season. After drawing so many comparisons to Dirk Nowitzki, the 7-foot-3 unicorn can fill his shoes with the Mavericks.
In 48 games during the 2017-18 season, Porzingis averaged 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks. He also shot 43.9 percent from the floor and a terrific 39.5 percent from behind the three-point line. The 23-year-old is one of the most diverse and versatile scorers in the league when healthy.
He’ll spend the next several seasons with fellow European star Luka Doncic who just took home the 2018-19 NBA Rookie of the Year. When Porzingis returns to form, he and Doncic could be one of the most exciting duos in the league. Will he help lead Dallas back to the postseason?
