Last Monday, fans witnessed another historic moment in basketball history. Although the Milwaukee Bucks were unable to secure an NBA Championship, Giannis Antetokounmpo was able to overcome other obstacles and win the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award. Antetokounmpo outperformed his peers this season and carried his team to the second round of the playoff before getting knocked out by the Toronto Raptors. This season, Antetokunmpo averaged 27.7 Pts per game, 12.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists.
Bucks General Manager, Jon Horst was excited for Antetokounmpo as well. According to NBA.com, Horst said:
“This well-deserved honor is due to his relentless hard work and dedication in becoming the most impactful player in the NBA. Giannis propelled the Bucks to great heights last season with his leadership, drive, and unselfish play. His grace on and off the court has made him one of the most admired players in the world. On behalf of ownership, the entire Bucks organization and Bucks fans everywhere, we congratulate Giannis for being named MVP.”-Jon Horst, Milwaukee Bucks General Manager
Antetokunmpo adds the MVP trophy to his resume, alongside other awards such as the All-NBA Team award (2017-2019), and NBA All-Defensive Team (2017 and 2019). As Antetokunmpo accepted the honor, he began to cry tears of joy. If you missed the video, you can check it below.
