Golovkin (38-0-1) is boxing’s unified WBC, WBA, and IBO middleweight champion of the world. Additionally, he is considered by many to be boxing’s pound-for-pound King.
Canelo, however, hasn’t fought since the first bout with GGG in Sept. 2017 when the two fought to a controversial draw.
He has been out of action due to multiple failed drug tests for the performance enhancing drug Clenbuterol.
Both fighters came in well under the 176 pound limit for their WBC 30-day weigh-in.
T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is set to play host to the WBC and WBA championship bout on September 15.
