Earlier this month, the world of rugby lost legendary All Blacks star Jonah Lomu. He had been struggling with a rare and chronic kidney disease since 1995. Earlier today, Lomu was laid to rest at the young age of 40 in front of his former teammates, family and thousands of mourning fans in New Zealand’s spiritual home of rugby, Eden Park.
The traditional haka ensued and the power that radiated from his heartbroken teammates could be felt throughout all of New Zealand.
Former All Blacks coach John Hart had these final words to say.
“Jonah, you were a freak on the field and a gentle, caring giant off it.”
