Floyd Mayweather Announces His Retirement Following Victory Over Berto

Love him or hate him, Floyd Mayweather is arguably the greatest pound-for-pound fighter to ever grace the ring. The 38 year-old legend announced his retirement following his unanimous decision over Andre Berto Saturday evening. Mayweather stated, according to the Guardian’s Bryan Armen Graham:

“I’ve accomplished everything, there’s nothing else to accomplish. Money don’t make me, I make money.”

Mayweather further discussed his retirement with Brian Campbell of

“You have to know when to hang it up. It’s time to hang it up…Nothing else for me to prove in the sport of boxing.”

For over the past year, Floyd has made it quite clear that his departure from the world of boxing was imminent. Unfortunately, this nightmare that haunted countless fans has thus become a reality. His career, which is one for the record books, is surpassed by few and will go down as one of the most decorated of all-time. He is undefeated as a professional and is a five-division world champion, having won twelve world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes.

Mayweather is walking away from the ring with an impeccable record of 49-0. While Floyd may never lace up the gloves again professionally, his defensive-minded take on the sport, villain-like demeanor and literary prowess will never be forgotten.

Here are some classic Mayweather moments for all you heartbroken fans.

Farewell Money Mayweather.
