Deadspin used to be an irreverent sports website, destroying all before it with snark and tastelessness. It was crude and groundbreaking, and the writers actually seemed to know what they were talking about it when it came to sports.
Ever since the site has taken a major left hand turn, politics and political correctness are shoved down readers’ throats in just about every column they can manage to wedge it into. It’s left them bereft of talent capable of offering any valuable insights into sports.
Take Lindsey Adler, a writer at Deadspin who appears to post only about baseball. I’m not really sure to be honest, but I scrolled through her posts and they were all baseball. I’m drawing a conclusion with a limited sample size.
Despite making her bones on baseball posts, Lindsey has never really paid much attention to the nuance of the sport. Today, she posted this piece on the chippy series between the Braves and Blue Jays.

In case you were unaware, Bautista ruffled some Braves feathers after he did a bat flip and stared down the pitcher in a game earlier in the series. You’d have every reason to believe the Braves would intentionally put one into Bautista’s back in retaliation. Except, when you actually look at the aforementioned “direct point at Bautista” in the article’s headline, you find something that any casual baseball fan would immediately recognize.
Lindsey, that’s what’s referred to in baseball as an “inside fastball.”
After dozens of comments and replies to the tweet, a “correction” was issued at the bottom of the article.
For her part, Adler tried to own her ignorance on the subtleties of the game she covers for a living.
yeah, i fucked up! considering this my plunking and am happy to at least provide fodder for your roasting needs today.

Let’s be clear, it’s not a screw up. It’s someone who doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.
Here at BigPlay, we know every little detail about sports. We don’t make mistakes like that. And we don’t shove our politics down your throat. And we’ll proudly “man-splain” it to you so you can learn something.
