This is the 15th installment of a series of articles covering each player on the Cleveland Browns roster. There will be a new player released every day from now until the Browns preseason begins. If you enjoy (tolerate) this article, I encourage you to check back each day to read each one. I try to keep these articles short and sweet.
#52- Ray-Ray Armstrong– LB- Miami
I’m torn on a nickname for this guy. Part of me wants to call him Ray-Ray “Stretch” Armstrong because much like the old action figures he looks like a bodybuilder and has a long reach. But that got me to thinking that I am actually more like Stretch Armstrong because with my horrible diet I am practically made up of corn syrup. My other option for the Miami linebacker is inspired by one of his fellow former Hurricane alums. Ray-Ray “Lewis” Armstrong. This is mainly because if you give him a clean shot at a quarterback, he might just kill a man.
Ray-Ray has been in the league since 2013. In that time, he has gotten around, playing for 5 different NFL teams. He played in 9 games for the Browns last season, recording six tackles (2 of which were special teams stops).
The Browns appear set with their starters at the linebacker position. However, Joe Schobert and Christian Kirksey both missed time last season with injuries so it may be a spot that needs a little more depth than usual. Insert Armstrong. He gives the team a veteran reserve who is also good on special teams. However, with John Dorsey selecting Sione Takitaki and Mack Wilson in this year’s draft, perhaps the team is looking to get younger at that spot.
