Garrett Gilbert looks to become an AAF success story with the Browns this season.

This is the 28th installment of a series of articles covering each player on the Cleveland Browns roster. There will be a new player released every day from now until the Browns preseason begins. If you enjoy (tolerate) this article, I encourage you to check back each day to read each one. I try to keep these articles short and sweet.

#3- Garrett Gilbert– QB- Southern Methodist

I call this guy Garrett Gilbert “Arenas” because he is an absolute wizard with the ball and he loves getting into shootouts. The rest of the NFL is trying to become more explosive and add weapons to their teams. Much like another famous southern Methodist (George W. Bush), Garrett Gilbert is planning on going on the offensive against these threats.

Garrett Gilbert has a chance to become a success story out of the now-defunct AAF. He played eight games for the Orlando Apollos, putting up over 2,000 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has some experience playing in the NFL.

In his lone NFL game last season, he put up passing numbers that would make Lamar Jackson blush. Garrett completed two out of his three pass attempts for 40 yards with zero interceptions. His season QBR of 50 also outdid the Ravens’ signal caller (48.7).

As I mentioned in the David Blough breakdown, with advances in medicine, the Browns won’t need another quarterback until the year 2045. However, somebody needs to take a knee in the waning moments of the Super Bowl while Baker and the boys are running around celebrating and kissing babies. Why not Gilbert?
