This is the eighth installment of a series of articles covering each player on the Cleveland Browns roster. There will be a new player released every day from now until the Browns preseason begins. If you enjoy (tolerate) this article, I encourage you to check back each day to read each one. I try to keep them short and sweet. I actually call these articles “Baker Mayfields” because they make such quick reads.
#84- Derrick Willies– WR- Texas Tech
The Browns website mentions that Willies loves dogs and has studied professional dog training in his spare time. If this whole NFL thing doesn’t work out for him, I’m sure the Browns could bring him on to care for Moose and Swagger. Or at the very least, noted dog lover, Myles Garrett could hire him to care for his pooch during the season.
At 6’4, Derrick Willies is the biggest wide receiver on the Browns roster. He was only able to get meaningful playing time in one game last year but made the most of that opportunity. Willies had 3 receptions for 61 yards in a week five victory over the Ravens. Unfortunately for the big wide out, he suffered a broken collarbone the following week.
It is no secret that the Browns are stacked at the wide receiver position so it may be difficult to get this young man on the field much. With that being said, Baker is known to be able to distribute the ball all over the field so, in situations where Freddie Kitchens and Todd Monken want more big bodies on the field, Derrick could provide that. More than anything I want to see him rip off a long touchdown reception so Jim Donovan can recreate his famous “Run Willie(s) Run” call.
Speaking of Willie’s, if you enjoyed this article, make sure to check out yesterday’s breakdown on Willie Wright.
