This is the 76th installment of a series of articles covering each player on the Cleveland Browns roster. If you enjoy (tolerate) this article, I encourage you to check back each day to read each one.
#23- Damarious Randall– S- Arizona State
I call this guy Damarious Randall “Weems”. If you are wondering to yourself, “who the heck is Randall Weems?” he is the little rat kid from my favorite childhood cartoon, “Recess”. The Browns safety doesn’t have any of the rat qualities of the cartoon Randall, but he sure does annoy every opposing player he comes across. Also, instead of giving his notepad full of notes about his classmates, Randall hands ex-coaches footballs.
Randall spent his first three seasons playing cornerback for the Green Bay Packers before switching to his collegiate position of safety with the Browns last year. Even with the position and location change, Randall was able to remain remarkably consistent. In his four NFL seasons, his interception numbers are 3, 3, 4, and 4. His passes defended are 14, 9, 9, and 9. The only stat to take a dramatic turn was his tackles which improved to 84 last season after having a previous career-high of 56.
This Browns team has a lot of talented, fun personalities on the roster and Randall is among my favorites. He kind of solidified himself in the hearts of Clevelanders when he infamously handed Hue the football after his interception against the Bengals last year. I have a picture of it saved on my phone and it still cracks me up when I scroll by it. This team should be a lot of fun to watch this year and Randall will be a big reason why.
