This is the 74th installment of a series of articles covering each player on the Cleveland Browns roster. If you enjoy (tolerate) this article, I encourage you to check back each day to read each one.
#98- Anthony Zettel– DE- Penn State
I call this guy Anthony “David” Zettel-man because, just like the New York Giants general manager, he is doing everything he can to make the Browns better this season. Gettleman infamously sent Olivier Vernon and Odell Beckham, Jr. to Cleveland for Kevin Zeitler and Jabrill Peppers. I don’t think Zettel can improve the team quite as much as Gettleman did, but I’m sure he will give it the old college try.
The Browns acquired Zettel after cuts last season. Personally, I thought it was a steal as he was coming off of a very productive 2017 season with Detroit. He started all 16 games that year and produced 6.5 sacks for the Lions. They went on to cut him before the next season even began. In 2018, he saw action in 15 games for Cleveland, but failed to record a sack and only made 13 tackles all year.
I’m really not sure how much Zettel will be helping this Browns this season with their new and improved defensive line. You probably haven’t heard, but Cleveland added Sheldon Richardson and Olivier Vernon to a line that already included Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi. If he had difficulties seeing the field last season, the acquisition of Richardson and Vernon is only going to push him further down the depth chart.
