I used to like Colin Cowherd.
In fact, I watched his show every single day for 3 straight months. Something I’m not exactly proud to admit being a Cleveland fan.
Before you completely write me off, let me explain.
I first discovered Cowherd’s show while on maternity leave with my son. My daytime TV rotation at the time resembled that of a frat house versus a 30 something year old mother. At the time, I really enjoyed his brash takes and banter. In hindsight, it was probably the pain meds and hormones masking the attention seeking ignorance.
It wasn’t until the return of LeBron James that I truly started to despise the man. It seemed he couldn’t say a single nice thing about the best player in basketball or the city he hailed from. This rubbed me the wrong way, so I ignored him.
I continued to ignore him and it got easier because LeBron eventually left us and suddenly we weren’t worthy enough to discuss anymore.
Enter, Baker Mayfield. Cue Colin Cowherd’s crappy takes.
I listened to him crush our rookie QB and his team all last year, even after Baker made him eat his words. It was unavoidable. He just didn’t stop.
Then the Odell trade happened, and the criticism continues. This time it felt more personal. According to Cowherd and his sources, Odell is miserable. He can’t seem to fathom why anyone would ever actually want to live or play in Cleveland.
Let me try to enlighten you, Mr. Cowherd. We like it here. We’re simple people… we don’t need fancy things or flashy parties to keep us happy. We have our sports and we have each other and that’s all we really need. Keep doubting us – we thrive on it, and when we win that Super Bowl, it will feel that much sweeter.
See the thing is, Colin, we don’t need you…but you’ve made it abundantly clear you need us. Next time, a simple ‘thank you’ will suffice.
