The only positive outcome of LeBron James not making the playoffs this year is the fact that he can film Space Jam 2, finally. It seems like this movie has been discussed for years now. The first big news came on September 19th of last year in a post by LeBron.

With his fun post, he revealed that it was officially going to happen and who was going to produce and direct the movie. “Black Panther” and “Creed” director, Ryan Coogler, is producing, while up-and-coming director, Terence Nance, will be directing. So, we knew that LeBron would be the story, who the producer and director were, and that the Looney Tunes would be the other main characters, but we didn’t know who the basketball players would be that the Monstars would get their abilities from. In the original, it was Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson, and Shawn Bradley. Well, now we know who will be joining LeBron, thanks to Shams Charania.

I have to say, the group of players that LeBron was able to bring together is a lot better than I expected. Anthony Davis, LeBron’s newest teammate, is a six-time All-Star and possibly the best center in the league. Damian Lillard is a four-time All-Star, one of the best guards, and was amazing in this year’s playoffs. Klay Thompson is a five-time All-Star, might be the best pure shooter in the league and a three-time NBA champ. Diana Taurasi is a three-time WNBA champ, former MVP, and four-time gold medalist. Nneka Ogwumike is a WNBA champ, former WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year. Her sister, Chiney Ogwumike, is a former WNBA Rookie of the Year and two-time All-Star.

The cast is stellar, even though they won’t even have major roles. It includes three of the best NBA players and three of the best WNBA players. I’m not sure you could’ve asked for much more than that. On top of all of it, there are supposed to be even more NBA and WNBA players to be in the movie. Maybe J.R. Smith? I don’t know, but I do know I’ll be watching LeBron play with Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes in theaters when it comes out, July 16, 2021.
