Making his ONE Championship debut, former mega-prospect Sage Northcutt was knocked out in just 30 seconds by Cosmo Alexandre.
It was Northcutt’s first fight since leaving the UFC and signing with the ONE promotion last November. He was 6-2 in the UFC, but most of his wins were relatively unimpressive against low-tier fighters. While he was one of the most hyped-up fighting prospects in recent memory, he’s known more for just being insanely ripped than his actual fighting talents.
Northcutt’s opponent, Cosmo Alexandre, is now 8-1 in his mixed martial arts career, winning eight straight. This was also his ONE Championship debut, and he’s surely impressed right out of the gate with this massive knockout victory.
ONE Championship has done a great job putting its name on the map in the MMA world over the last year or so. Along with Northcutt, the promotion has signed former UFC champions Demetrious Johnson (28-3) and Eddie Alvarez (29-7). “Mighty Mouse” Johnson started strong, winning his first fight with ONE in March while Alvarez was knocked out in the first round on the same day.
As for the 23-year-old Northcutt, who knows where his fighting career is heading. He’s still a big name in the MMA community, though not for good reason at this point. He has the potential but has struggled to put it all together so far.
