Well the Atlanta Falcons don’t have to worry about Julio Jones holding out for a new contract because the two sides came to an agreement on Saturday to make him the highest paid receiver in football.
Jones is now under contract with Atlanta through the 2023 season with the total value of the contract worth $87 million over the next five seasons. The $66 million guaranteed is a new record at the wide receiver position, topping Odell Beckham’s $65 million guaranteed when he signed with the Giants last summer.
The wide receiver told reporters on Thursday “I don’t know” when asked about his status for Sunday’s season opener against Minnesota which was in relation to the progress of his contract extension. Deadlines always seem to spur action and Atlanta knows how much the talented receiver means to the team.
Since being drafted sixth-overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, Jones has 698 catches for 10,731 yards and 51 touchdowns. Jones has represented the Falcons in six Pro Bowls and was selected as a first-team All-Pro in 2015 and 2016.
