The Kansas City Chiefs might be in the market for a new backup quarterback now that E.J. Manuel has reportedly announced his retirement.
Manuel was a former 16th-overall pick by the Buffalo Bills back in 2013. He never fully evolved into the trusted franchise quarterback the Bills were counting on. Instead, after four dismal seasons of injuries and overall poor performances, the Bills released him.
Manuel next spent 2017 with the Oakland Raiders as a backup up to Derek Carr. Now after a brief stint as an offseason Chief, Manuel apparently has decided to call it quits in the NFL.
This leaves Chad Henne as the only veteran backup depth behind NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs can only hope Mahomes stays healthy while they perhaps scour what quarterbacks remain in the current free agent pool.
