Dusan Bulut was supposed to make waves this season in the BIG3.
The BIG3 allowed international players to join the draft pool this season and Bulut, the top-ranked FIBA player in the world, was going to be the first overseas player in the league after being drafted in the third round by the Ball Hogs.
However, the Serbian national posted on his Instagram Wednesday that he has withdrawn his name from the league after FIBA threatened him with sanctions that included his eligibility for the upcoming Olympics. Ultimately, he was blocked from playing stateside.
Bulut has been participating in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup with Serbia so it was unlikely he was going to make his debut this weekend. That being said, he was brought in to help the Ball Hogs get over the hump this year as this team has struggled with just three wins in two seasons.
One of the more electrifying players in this year’s draft class, Bulut is known as to be a player who is an innovative scorer with the ability to make flashy passes due to his court vision.
It’s still unknown who will take the sixth roster spot on the Ball Hogs, but this is certainly a devastating blow for Bulut, as well as, the BIG3 who’s made clear strides going into the season. We’ll likely have to wait until next season to see a player break through the international barrier.
