The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to sign linebacker Deion Jones to a contract extension. The deal was first reported by ESPN.
Jones has been one of the best up and coming linebackers in the game since Atlanta drafted him with 52nd overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
In three seasons, Jones has racked up 297 total tackles, eight interceptions, 27 pass deflections, and three defensive touchdowns as part of the young nucleus that general manager Thomas Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn are building on that side of the ball.
Last season, Jones only played in six games due to a foot injury but once he was activated, he dominated making 53 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
Atlanta also signed defensive tackle Grady Jarrett to a multi-year deal earlier this week and is working to give wide receiver Julio Jones a new contract as well.
The Falcons will be contenders in the NFC this upcoming season so the fact that they’re working to get these deals done shows that they want to be all business as they look to pursue the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship.
