Following a month-long holdout from team activities, the Dallas Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliott have come to terms on a six-year extension worth $90 million. The extension includes $50 million guaranteed, a very high sum for the running back position. This deal makes Elliott the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The deal was first reported by ESPN’s Todd Archer.
This contract sets Zeke above the former highest-paid halfback Todd Gurley II. Gurley signed his four-year $60M extension last summer, with $45M of that guaranteed. This was a template for what Elliott’s camp was looking to receive in his new deal, and Dallas’ agreement shows how great of an asset that Elliot is to the team’s success.
Elliott has been one of the most productive backs in the NFL since his arrival in 2016, bringing home two of the last three rushing titles, as well as establishing himself as the workhorse of the Dallas offense. Last season Elliott introduced himself to the NFL as a dual-threat running back, bringing in 77 catches in addition to his league-leading 304 rushing attempts.
