There’s a new chapter in the Duke Johnson story and this one will be without his agent, Kristin Campbell.
Per Ian Rapoport, Johnson has parted ways with Campbell and is currently agent-less.
BIGPLAY dropped some news earlier in the year that Duke requested a trade and appeared to want out of Cleveland. This, of course, happened after the Browns acquired the running back star, Kareem Hunt. Because Johnson has been underused in the past, one could only imagine that things wouldn’t change once Hunt was available to play. Add that to starter Nick Chubb, and Duke’s touches seem almost null.
Duke remained quiet and didn’t show up to any voluntary conferences or practices. But when mandatory minicamp came around, he did and the press were vultures. His trade request was brought up and at this point, Duke made it clear he still wanted out. According to Duke himself, the Browns were the ones who initially were talking about trading him first. Not to forget, with Odell Beckham Jr. on the roster, that’s another body taking the ball out of Duke’s hands.
If you thought things would quiet down after that, you were wrong. Baker Mayfield spoke about Duke’s comments and it ruffled feathers with some of the veterans on the team, as well as the husband of Duke’s former agent, Luther Campbell, who took to Twitter with nothing but harsh words for Baker.
It’s unclear why Duke fired his agent, maybe, he was pressured by Campbell from the start regarding the request or maybe he needs someone else who can actually get this trade done. Either way, the Browns have time and time again made it clear that Johnson is very much a part of the family and will play a roll in the upcoming season.
