The Chicago Blackhawks drafted a solid Center with their first-round pick at the 2019 NHL Draft. While they had options to select a top defender in Bowen Byram or the hometown kid Alex Turcotte, they went with the bigger Canadian Center.
He has the ability to pass and score well at times but will need to develop more before he gets a chance to truly impact the Blackhawks franchise. They selected him for his size, speed and skill as one of the top NHL prospects this year.
The Blackhawks hadn’t had this high a pick for years, back when they selected Patrick Kane.
There is some upside to this pick, with only two Centers under contract for the Blackhawks past 2020. Dach will have at least one year to continue to develop before needing to fill some gaps in Chicago. He’s a big player who knows how to maneuver on the ice but he doesn’t have any skills that truly stand out.
This pick could become a bust in the future and analysts believe he’s not ready yet, but only Dach can prove how worthy he truly is.
