The Washington Redskins drafted Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins with the 15th pick in this year’s draft. While many, including FS1’s Cris Carter, thought that Haskins would beat out veteran Case Keenum in time for Washington’s Week One matchup against division rival Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Jay Gruden named Keenum the starter early Sunday morning.
Keenum has slightly out-dueled his rookie challenger throughout the preseason, narrowly edging the starting job for week 1. While Haskins has not been awful in the time he was given, he has simply not proved himself over the veteran QB. Though Keenum holds the job currently, expect a short leash, as Washington would like to transition to the first-rounder as soon as they feel he is NFL ready.
