Baron Davis announced via Twitter that he has resigned from the BIG3. The league later noted that Davis would be deactivated for the 2019 season.
Davis, who was a member of 3’s Company, was a co-captain for his team and an integral part of the team’s run to the championship game before getting injured down the stretch. He has yet to suit up this season due to a leg injury he suffered during the 2018 summer.
This isn’t the first time 3’s Company has dealt with the loss of a star point guard during the season. In the BIG3’s inaugural season, former captain Allen Iverson left the league after playing through a handful of games.
In his lone season, the former Golden State Warrior averaged averaged just over 15 points and four rebounds a game.
3’s Company was already struggling without Davis, beginning the season without a win through three games. Last year’s Fourth Man of the Year Andre Emmett was superior in Davis’ absence but has struggled so far this season.
Now with Davis no longer returning it will be a tough for them to compete for a title again this season.
The league added that Tri-State’s Jermaine O’Neal and Bonzi Wells along with Enemies’ Lamar Odom will also be deactivated for the rest of the season.
O’Neal hasn’t played yet this season due to an issue with his heart, while Wells and Odom have been active but hardly fit for action. It’s unclear if any of these players will participate next summer or done with basketball for good.
