Ok – so this news is a week old, but now it is official… Kane and Toews will be wearing the Indian Head until at least 2022. After a week of bad news for the Bulls, this news couldn’t be sweeter.
New York can have ‘Melo. Have fun hanging out in Cleveland, LeBron. We got SHOWTIME here in Chicago!
There is nothing better than playoff hockey and with the combo of Kane and Toews, we’re guaranteed deep runs into the post-season for years to come…. barring a complete catastrophe of course (knock on wood).
Right now, Blackhawk hockey is the only consistent in this city and we’re already favorites to bring back the Stanley Cup next year. What else do we have to look forward to, well:
Da Bears will have one of the most exciting offenses in the league next year, but they are one Jay Cutler injury from making Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey very expensive blockers. Marc Trestman is a quarterback genius, but he isn’t a miracle worker and that’s what he’ll need if has to rely on Jordan Palmer or Jimmy Clausen.
Da Bulls will be a solid regular season, but they are still an elite scorer away from competing for a title. They have a great, young bench now, but with other teams in the East getting stronger (hello Cleveland), emerging out of that conference on top will be a tall order for years to come.
The Cubs… well they have a ton of prospects, but prospects are prospects until they are stars. If everything went to plan, we would be celebrating a dynasty right now that would have featured Mark Prior, Corey Patterson, Felix Pie and Geovany Soto. Long story short, I’m tempering my excitement.
It’s been a fun seven years with Kane and Toews, and whenever their run with the Hawks ends, you can bet there will be a huge statue of them next to Jordan outside the United Center.
Speaking of it being seven years, I’ve never felt older than seeing Kane with his receding hairline at the press conference. What happened to the young’un who would get drunk and beat the crap out of cab drivers? Never grow up, Kane, never grow up.

PS — I will always hate Jimmy Clausen, so please don’t get hurt, Jay.
